Shango: Rider of Thunder (Print)
11×17 smooth poster
Orisha, the title of divine spirits who originate from Yoruba people of West Africa. They are seen as intermediaries between the people and the supreme creator Olodumare, they’re often seen as natural forces of nature such as the sea, wind, and fire, but also represent parts of the human experience.
Shango is seen as the Orisha of power, thunder, justice, and fire, he embodies passion, strength, leadership. Here he rides his white horse against a dark storm filled sky of his creation, wearing his traditional colors of red and white, he leaps from the sky with his battle axe ready.
I made this piece at a time where I really struggled with what my own personal power felt like. The beginning of sitting with my power, learning it, and expressing it. Through this piece, I hope anyone who connects with it, feels their own personal power radiate within them and understand their own strength know that you are powerful.
