The Wrath of Sekhmet (Print)
11×17 smooth poster print
Sekhmet, the most known out of the many lion goddesses of Ancient Egypt, ruling over war and bloodshed but also healing and medicine. The myth of Sekhmet starts with her father, the sun God Ra, who watched all the people on earth as he traveled across the sky. While watching his people, he noticed the lack of praise in recent times and became hurt by those who turned their backs on him due to his old age. To punish the humans he sent his eye, his daughter, The Powerful One known as Sekhmet.
With the head of a lion and body of a woman she appeared before the people. Her passion and rage radiating off of her, and with swiftness she began distributing her acts of justice on the people.
When sitting within my ego, I look at the way people treat each other. I become blind to the progression and the beauty of the world and am left with nothing but anger and disappointment.
I started this piece with the idea of expressing my rage towards the world, the way we can be towards each other and to the earth. Between the bombing of thousands, the abuse and enslavement of peoples for greed, and an election that could damn so many, I felt the necessity to create more.
Anger is a secondary emotion, a reaction to a primary one whether it be sadness, fear, some other, or a combination. We all feel anger but it is our choice on how we act upon it. Will we use it to create change or present it like a child lashing out.
